Suspects arrested with an unlicensed firearm and drugs in the Nyanga Cluster

Efforts to root out illegal firearms and drugs in the Nyanga Cluster resulted in the recovery of an unlicensed firearm and an assortment of drugs.

Four suspects are expected to appear in court next week following their arrest last night and this morning in Gugulethu and Nyanga. While on patrol at about 01:15 this morning members attached to the Provincial Intervention Team based in Nyanga came across two suspects who were walking in Klipfontein Road in Crossroads, The members stopped and searched the two suspects and found a firearm with 19 rounds of ammunition. When questioned about the licence of the firearm the suspects aged 17 and 18 could not produce the licence and were arrested and detained.

The other two suspects aged 33 and 63 were arrested last night at about 10:00 for the possession of drugs in NY 114 in Gugulethu. The members were on patrol when they were tipped off about a house with drugs in the area. When they searched the house they recovered 46 half mandrax, 13 whole tablets, 19 units of tik, 12 bankies full of tik, a money bag full of crushed mandrax, loose dagga and 50 stoppe of dagga. A 33-year-old woman and 63-year-old man were arrested and detained in Gugulethu.

The four suspects are scheduled to appear in Athlone Magistrate Court once they have been charged for the possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition and possession of drugs.
