Suspects to appear in court for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition

WESTERN CAPE – On Tuesday afternoon 24 May 2022 at 15:00 members of the Lentegeur Crime Prevention Unit received information of possible criminal activity at an address in Wildwood area, Mitchell’s Plain. The information was operationalized and the premises was searched. This resulted in the seizure of firearms and an assortment of ammunition for which no licenses could be produced. A 62-year-old male was arrested and detained on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Once charged the suspect will appear in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrates court on the mentioned charges.

In an unrelated matter members of Steenberg police arrested a 15-year-male for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and pointing of a firearm in Volksang Road, Cafda, Retreat this morning. The members were busy with patrols to combat gang related shooting in the area when they saw two males walking in the road and when they saw the police vehicle they started to run. One suspect pointed the members with a firearm and was shot and wounded. A firearm with ammunition was confiscated. Further investigations revealed that the firearm was stolen in Bellville.

Once charged the suspect will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates court on the mentioned charges.
