Swift response by the police leads to the arrest of three business robbery suspects and recovery of a firearm in Westonaria

GAUTENG – Police arrested three suspects and recovered an unlicensed firearm after responding swiftly to a business robbery in Westonaria this morning, 03 August 2020.
Police received information about business robbery in progress at a Supermarket in Westonaria and responded immediately. Upon arrival at the scene, police noticed four suspects on top of the roof of the Supermarket. The suspects started shooting at the police and shootout ensued. It is alleged that about five armed suspects entered the Supermarket and held up security guards and employees before robbing them an undisclosed amount of cash, cigarettes and cellphones.
Three suspects aged between 40 and 43 were arrested and an unlicensed firearm was recovered. Police are searching for two more suspects that escaped from the scene. No injuries were reported during the robbery and during the shootout.
A case of business robbery, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearm has been opened for investigation.
