Tamara SAPS conducted a crime awareness event

Tamara Police in conjuction with other stakeholders held a crime awareness event today at Jubisa Primary School outside King William’s Town.

The Jubisa Primary School Principal Mr Hans explained the situation at the school to the stakeholders and parents that the school children are unruly and at times they bring dangerous weapons to school and about their children’s behaviour changes. The Tamara Station Commander Captain Matiso emphasized that they will strengthen the relationship with the school to ensure safety. He also mentioned that there is a Junior Commissioner concept where children are being groomed by the SAPS to better their future and to talk to their peers about challenges they are facing.

The social worker from Department of Social Development Miss Molefe explained the role of social workers in the society and that they must report the abuse happening at their homes to the teachers. Sergeant Landingwe from Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit (FCS) explained to them about sexual abuse and that they must report rape to the people they trust or the police and necessary steps will be taken. He also mentioned that they must not take a bath when being rape as police will need the evidence. Miss Gqada a probationer from the Department of Social Development explained the dangers of drugs and that they must not start smoking drugs as they will be addicted and kill their future.

Mrs Magoqwanga from Bhisho Youth Care Centre explained that they keep children (under 18) who committed crime and are being referred by Magistrates. She also brought two inmates to explain their journey in life and they encouraged the learners to refrain from drugs and criminal activities and concentrate on their dreams.
