Tembisa Shooting Incident

The police in Tembisa this morning just after 08:30, responded to a shooting incident at Tembisa Hospital. Upon arrival, the police were told by witnesses that a police officer driving a white vehicle with blue lights drove into the hospital and parked near emergency services. The police officer is alleged to have called his partner aged 30, who worked at the hospital to come to the parking lot.

Witnesses then reported that they heard gunshot sounds and when they went to investigate, they found that the partner was fatally shot and the officer had turned the gun on himself but he sustained critical wounds. He was airlifted to another hospital for medical treatment. The constable is attached to Ekurhuleni District Trio Task Team.

The police have opened a case of murder against the 30-year-old constable and investigations will determine the motive for the killing. He will be placed under police guard in hospital and he will appear in court as soon as he is fit to do so.

The Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng Police, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela has expressed his discouragement, “I am disheartened by today’s incident where one of our own is accused of perpetrating a horrible crime against a woman. I have, through our Employee Health and Wellness’s Spiritual Services conveyed my condolences to the family of the deceased. I am told that the officer is in a critical condition in hospital. He will be charged with murder and upon recovery, he will be taken to court,” said Lt Gen Mawela.
