Three mobile visitor information vehicles, named Thando, are travelling around Cape Town sharing tips with tourists. These mobile visitor centres are the only ones in South Africa. Read more below:
I visited this impressive vehicle at the Cape Town Stadium today where it is sharing great tourist information with the thousands of Cape Town Cycle Tour participants.
Over the past quarter, Thando visited 22 sites and together with the mobile tourism team, interacted with 70 688 visitors.
The City’s official destination marketing organisation, Cape Town Tourism (CTT), provides extensive visitor information services. Thando is their brainchild and what makes Thando so exciting, is the merger between technology and vast tourism knowledge which has resulted in real-time access to information.
Thando, which means ‘love’ in IsiXhosa, travels around Cape Town meeting travellers and locals wherever they are and provides valuable and exciting information on what to do in Cape Town.
With its mobile facilities, each Thando has the flexibility to support any event, whether outdoors or indoors and offers the following exciting services:
• Free information brochures regarding tourism in Cape Town and the surrounding areas
• Free distribution of the Cape Town Visitor’s Guide that contains a wealth of information on Cape Town’s new activities, hotspots, and a variety of free vouchers to use at various places in the city, which are valid for the year.
• Booking services for accommodation, car hire, tours, activities and transfers
• SANParks reservations as well as My Green Cards and My Activity Cards
• Ticketing services such as Webtickets and Computicket
• Free Wi-Fi in the proximity of the vehicle
• Sale of specialised maps and Cape Town Tourism products
