Three arrested as police recover firearms and ammunition

DURBAN – A multidisciplinary joint operation between various police units in Cato Manor yesterday proved to be fruitful as police arrested three suspects and seized three illegal firearms.

The operation led police officers to the Emazenzeni Informal settlement in Cato Manor and Fastrack East in Wiggins where two suspect aged 32 were arrested for being in illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Two 9mm pistols as well as 16 rounds of ammunition were seized by police. One of the men was wanted for robberies committed in Mayville and Umbilo.

Police also arrested a 47-year-old man at Enkanini Informal Settlement on Blinkbonie Road in Cato Manor for being in illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. The man was also wanted in connection with business robberies at Umbilo and Mayville. A homemade firearm and 37 live rounds of ammunition was seized by police. All three men are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrates Court soon.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula welcomed the arrests. It is imperative that repeat offenders are removed from society and placed behind bars. We appeal to communities not to allow such hardened criminals to move around freely. Citizens are urged to report the movement of these criminals to police so that their criminal reign can be curtailed, he said.
