Three firearms and ammunition confiscated in Kraaifontein and Steenberg

WESTERN CAPE – In endeavours to address one of the Western Cape’s crime generators, unlicensed firearms, members attached to the Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit arrested a 19-year-old suspect for the possession of two prohibited firearms and ammunition in Kraaifontein on Sunday, 28 March 2021. The members acted on information received about firearms that were hidden at a residence in Horak Street, Peerless Park West, Kraaifontein. When the police arrived at the house and conducted a search, they confiscated two 9mm pistols with serial numbers filed off, two shotgun barrels as well as an assortment of 139 rounds of ammunition.

In an unrelated matter, on Monday morning, Steenberg crime prevention members who were strategically deployed to focus on violent crimes were conducting crime prevention patrols when they saw two suspects in St Agatha Street, St Montague Village in Lavender Hill. The suspects started running when they saw the police. The members pursued them and both were apprehended. An unlicensed firearm with ammunition was found on one of the suspects.

All arrested suspects will appear in the Blue Downs and Wynberg Magistrates courts once they have been charged.

SAPS management commended the members for ensuring that unlicensed firearms and ammunition are removed from the streets.
