Three Limpopo Traffic officers sentenced for corruption

LIMPOPO Three Modjadjiskloof Municipal Traffic officers, were successfully convicted for corruption by the Bolobedu Magistrate’s Court on Friday and Monday respectively.

Pambula Freddy Ngobeni (59), Happy Mahange (44) and Chayeza Rikhotso (37), were arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation Unit in collaboration with the Road Traffic Management Cooperation following a public outcry concerning allegations of their corrupt activities along the metros’ roads during 2017.

The team pounced on the accused for taking a R50-00 bribe from an undercover police agent who was caught for reportedly exceeding the speed limit.

The accused made numerous court appearances and they were each released on R1000-00 bail.

On 27 September 2019, Ngobeni was sentenced to two years imprisonment with the option of paying a R5000-00 fine whilst today, 30 September, Mahange and Rikhotso were sentenced to two years imprisonment with an option of a R5000-00 fine each.

The cases against other traffic police who were arrested together with the three accused are still on the court roll
