Three men arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition in Dutywa

EASTERN CAPE – East London Public Order Policing Unit and Butterworth Crime Intelligence arrested three men aged 29, 29 and 60 for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The suspects were arrested early on Tuesday, 30 July 2019.

A 29-year old man was arrested at Madaka Locality, Nyhwarha Village, Dutywa. He was found with 36 live rounds of ammunition. The suspect had no license to possess the ammunition. A 29-year-old man was arrested at Lencane Locality, Ngcingwana Village, Dutywa. He was found with unlicensed firearm namely a pistol with five (5) live rounds of ammunition. The suspect had no licenses of both firearm and ammunition. A 60-year-old man was arrested at Ngwenyama Locality, Nyhwarha Village, Dutywa. He was found with 7, 65 pistol that has three (3) rounds of live ammunition. The suspects will appear the Dutywa Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 31 July 2019.

Acting Butterworth Cluster Commander, Colonel Ncedo Ngwendze praised both units for a well done job. By removing illegal firearms and ammunition from the suspects, crimes such armed robberies and murders were prevented, said Col Ngwendze.
