Three rapists to languish in jail

The North West provincial police management welcomed sentences that were handed down by Klerksdorp District Court to three rapists on Thursday, 7 June 2018.

The sentences came after the accused were arrested for three separate cases of rape that were reported in Jouberton between 2014 and 2017.

In the first incident, a 6-year-old victim was playing at a friend’s house in February 2014 when the accused called her and her friend. The accused offered them food and instructed them to wash the dishes afterwards. The victim was then taken to the accused’s room where she was raped. For this offence, the accused, aged 43, was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment.

In the second incident in May 2016, Thabo Mogomotsi (25) assaulted and raped an 18-year-old woman. That was after the woman was left with Mogomotsi. Instead of taking care of the woman, the accused locked her inside his house, then assaulted and raped her. The latter managed to escape and reported the incident to the police after the accused fell asleep. Consequently, a 10 years’ imprisonment sentence was imposed against the accused.

In the third incident in May 2017, a 16-year-old victim arrived at her friend’s parental place from school. A 38-year-old accused took the victim and ultimately raped her at the back of the school. The matter was reported to the police after the accused raped the victim again in June 2017. The court sentenced the accused to 25 years imprisonment.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General, Baile Motswenyane congratulated Klerksdorp Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) for a sterling job and securing sentences to ensure that the culprits pay for their evil deeds.

Meanwhile, a 25-year-old man is expected to appear in the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, 11 June 2018, for murdering a 36-year-old man. According to information received the suspect was visiting his girlfriend, when he found her with another boyfriend.

It is alleged that the victim was stabbed twice in this back following an argument that ensued between them. The victim was taken to a local clinic, where he was certified dead. The incident was reported to the Boitekong police who traced and arrested the suspect.
