Three suspects arrested for drugs and illegal ammunition

EASTERN CAPE – Concerted efforts by police to ensure that Grahamstown and surrounding areas is drug free were handsomely rewarded where three suspects were arrested and drugs worth R15 000 were recovered on 18 September 2020.
Grahamstown police embarked on an Intelligence driven operation on 18 September 2020 at approximately 10:00.
Crime Intelligence Operational Command Center and Crime Patrol acted on a search warrant and searched a drug post at Fitzroy Street and the following drugs were found and seized in one of the occupants rooms.
1 x Dixon weighing scale
16 x Bankies dagga
1 x packet of khat powder – 0,74 g
3 x packets of tik 6,870g
7 x ecstacy tablets
13 x mushrooms
5 x packets LSD
2 x double star mandrax tablets
1 x packet of changa 0,63g
1 x 500 ml bottle with loose dagga
1 x 5 liter plastic jar containi g loose dagga
1 x Box of scalex zipper bags
6 x containers of chewable dagga gummy bears. One male was arrested for being in possession of drugs.
During the same operation another male was arrested for being illegally in possession of ammunition after an ammunition belt with 17 shotgun rounds and 4 empty shells were found in his room. He was detained for the illegal possession of ammunition.
The estimated value of the drugs are R10 000.
In another drug raid, Grahamstown K9 members Sgt Gqomo and Cst Mfazwe received information from Crime Intelligence about drugs at a house located in Transit Joza loc.
With the aid of narcotics dog, Bayley the members searched the premises and Bayley reacted positively.
Two (2) black bags and 12 dagga bundles were found weighing 27.31kg with an estimated street value of R5 000. The suspect also attempted to bribe the nembers with a R1000.
Two suspects were arrested for possession of dagga and bribing of a police officer.
All suspects are expected to appear at Grahamstown Magistrate’s court on Monday, 22 September 2020.
The Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner commended the members for their commitment and efforts. “When we rid our areas of drugs we are not only fighting crime but saving our children, who are soft targets for these unscrupulous dealers,” she added.
