Three suspects arrested for possession of suspected hijacked vehicle: Port Elizabeth

EASTERN CAPE – The following up of information from the community paid off when members from the South African Police Service arrested three suspects between the ages of 15 and 26 years for the possession of suspected stolen property and illegal possession of a firearm.

Members from the Cash-in-Transit Hijacking Task Team immediately responded when they received information about a suspected hijacked vehicle. The members proceeded to Kenako mall in search of a silver Opel Corsa. At approximately 09:50 on Friday they spotted the vehicle and as they requested the occupants to get out, they noticed a firearm behind the driver’s seat. A. 38 special revolver (serial number filled off) was confiscated. It was later established that the vehicle was hijacked on the 2nd of May 2019 in 7th Ave, Summerstrand.

All three suspects were detained on charges of possession of suspected hijacked vehicle and illegal possession of firearm. The firearm will be forwarded to ballistic for testing and the suspects will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate court on Monday 20/05.
