The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate will install a number of traffic calming measures within the Blaauwberg District over the next four months to support ongoing efforts to improve road safety for all residents. The work is set to commence today, 15 February 2022, and is anticipated to conclude in June 2023. Read more below:

This work forms part of ward allocations to provide traffic calming measures along the City’s road network and is planned to take place from Monday to Friday between 07:00 and 17:00.

Residents can expect traffic calming measures to be installed along the following roads:

Atlantis(Traffic calming measures will include footways and speed humps)

• Gouda Street

• Grosvenor Street

• Gardenia Street, Avondale

• Swift Street, Robinvale

• Nightingale Road, Atlantis

• Grosvenor Avenue, Avondale

Pella (Traffic calming measures will include footways)

• Yew and Juniper Streets

Melkbos (Traffic calming measures will include footways and a retaining wall)

• Otto du Plessis Drive

Table View (Traffic calming measures will include speed humps and a raised intersection)

• Gie Road, Table View

• Circle Road, Table View

Parklands(Traffic calming measures will include footways)

• Avonmouth Avenue

• Regent Road

Mamre(Traffic calming measures will include speed humps)

•Bishop Mark Street

Sunningdale(Traffic calming measures will include footways and a raised intersection)

• Sunningdale Drive

• Braselton

• Leadville

Montague Gardens(Traffic calming measures will include footways)

• Railway Road

‘Our intention with the traffic calming interventions is to make the roads safer for all road users, especially the most vulnerable among us like children, the elderly, and those with special needs. These measures are often installed along roads that run adjacent to schools where we have a large number of pedestrians,’ said Councillor Rob Quintas, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility.

Residents can expect a level of noise pollution during this time and the City will ensure that there are flag personnel to direct traffic through temporary detours around the work area.
