Tributes Pour In for Esteemed Political Journalist Tshidi Madia


Johannesburg: The Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Sindisiwe Chikunga, has paid tribute to political journalist Tshidi Madia, recognising her contribution to journalism and public discourse. Madia, who worked with Primedia (EWN and Radio 702), passed away on Wednesday after a short illness. She was Eyewitness News Associate Political Editor and spent more than 10 years in the media. She was celebrated for her political coverage and projects such as ‘Politricking with Tshidi Madia’.



According to South African Government News Agency, Chikunga expressed that young women in journalism should emulate Madia’s brilliance, courage, and integrity. Chikunga conveyed her deepest condolences to Madia’s family and friends, acknowledging her as a woman of resilience who attained professional success despite challenges.



The Deputy Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Steve Letsike, also expressed condolences to Madia’s family and colleagues. The Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) stated that Madia would be remembered for her professionalism and commitment to telling South Africa’s story. Her work during the allegations against South Africa regarding white genocide was highlighted, where she provided clarity and truth to a global audience.



Madia was recognised as a mentor to young journalists and for fostering constructive relationships between government and the media. Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi described her as one of South Africa’s most respected political journalists, celebrated for her integrity and commitment to holding power to account. Lesufi noted that Madia’s fearless pursuit of accountability enriched the country’s democratic discourse and that her passing is a significant loss to both the media fraternity and the nation.
