Two arrested in connection Laudium robbery

PRETORIA – Yesterday the Gauteng Provincial Task Team arrested two men in connection with an armed robbery which was committed last week in Laudium, West of Pretoria.

A group of armed men attacked security guards and robbed them of an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing. There were no reports of any injuries during the said robbery.

The Gauteng Provincial Task Team comprising of members from Crime Intelligence, the Hawks and Detectives arrested the two men, 38 and 39 years of age at 06:00am yesterday in Rietgat.

At the time of the arrest the suspects were travelling in a bakkie which was searched. A pistol, with the serial number filed off, was found hidden underneath the dashboard of the bakkie. A substantial amount of money in SA rands and Mozambican Metical was found under the seat of the bakkie.

Further investigations led the task team to the houses of the suspects in Soshanguve where an AK-47 rifle was recovered at one of the houses.

The two suspects face charges of armed robbery as well as two counts of possession of unlicensed firearms. They are expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon.
