Two gang members sentenced at the Khayelitsha Priority Court

WESTERN CAPE – Western Cape SAPS management welcomes the judgement imposed on two gangsters, Brandon September and Mujaid Alexander, who were each sentenced yesterday by the Khayelitsha Priority Court for their involvement in two separate murder cases within the Manenberg policing precinct.
On 01 August 2019, Brandon September, a member of the Americans gang, went to Bamboesberg Road, Manenberg where he met Faried Alexander, a Junior Mafias member. September took out a firearm and fired several shots at Alexander fatally wounding him. The murder of Alexander was a result of tensions between the two gangs involving territory and the sale of drugs. September was found guilty and sentenced to 25 years for murder; five years in terms of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (POCA) Act; five years for possession of an unlicensed firearm and two years for the possession of ammunition. The sentences will run concurrently and he will serve an effective 25 years direct imprisonment.
On 29 July 2019, Mujaid Alexander received information that Kwanele Singqu was at an address in Cockscombe Road, Heideveld, Manenberg. He believed that Singqu, who belonged to the Junior Mafias gang, was responsible for an attack against the American gang. Alexander approached Singqu at the address and fired several shots at him. Alexander immediately fled the scene after fatally wounding Singqu, however, after a thorough investigation he was arrested a month later. Alexander was found guilty and sentenced to 22 years for murder; five years in term of the POCA Act; five years for possession of an unlicensed firearm and two years for the possession of ammunition. The sentences will run concurrently and he will serve an effective 22 years direct imprisonment.
Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Yolisa Matakata commends the efforts of the investigating team, Sergeant Craig Keating and Sergeant Jeffrey Witbooi who worked diligently to prepare these cases and did everything possible to solve them.
She comments further that, “The detectives presented a water tight case which was thoroughly investigated leaving the court no choice but to sentence the two perpetrators to their maximum sentences.”
