Two illegal firearms and ammunition confiscated in Nyanga

Police attached to the Western Cape Flying squad were performing crime prevention patrols in Ems drive, Nyanga when they came across a suspicious vehicle, a red VW Polo GTI. SAPS members pursued the vehicle and the driver tried to drive away. A vehicle search was conducted and police confiscated two firearms, a Norinco pistol and a 9mm Baretta pistol with serial numbers filed off and 80 live rounds of ammunition. The originality of the firearms form part of the investigation.

The two men ages 32 and 54 years old were arrested and once charged they will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court.
