Two male suspects arrested for business robbery

GAUTENG – Two male suspects aged 23 and 25 were arrested after robbing a PEP cell shop situated at Sammy marks square in the city centre on Wednesday, 19 May 2021.

Three suspects stormed into the store, held the staff at gunpoint and demanded cellphones. While they were busy packing the stock, one employee from another shop saw the robbery in progress and enlightened security officers.

The security officers proceeded to the scene, and when the suspects saw the security officers approaching, they intended to run away but two of the suspects were caught a few meters away while one suspect carrying a firearm managed to escape.

Members of the SAPS were called onto the scene and managed to recover 77 cellphones with a total value of R135 764-00.

Two suspects were detained at Pretoria Central and will appear at the Pretoria Magistrate Court. Tracing of the remaining suspect is underway.

The station Commander, Brigadier Dladla welcomes the arrest and commends the security officers for their bravery. He further reassured the community that the tracing team will leave no stone unturned until they find the remaining suspect.
