Two more Police officers appear in court for robbery

Two more police officers from Standerton appeared at the local magistrate’s court today for a robbery committed around January this year, after they handed themselves over to their colleagues. The two members are alleged to have been part of the four constables which this office reported about yesterday. The charge levelled against these police officers comes in the wake of an investigation where it is alleged that the members had, at the mentioned period, colluded in robbing a foreign-owned supermarket in the area under the pretext of being inspectors from the South African Revenue Services having come for an inspection. It is further alleged that once inside the supermarket, they then robbed the owner of an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene.

The two suspects, Constables Solomon Richard Seboko aged 36 and Hlalanathi Solomuzi Ngcemu aged 37 appeared at the same court and were released on a R1 000 bail each, with the matter remanded to 12 June 2018.

Yesterday this office reported that four police officers, Constables Thabiso Phillemon Lepoto (35), Jabu George Sekhoto (37), Siphiwe Esssau Ntshangase (45) and Fika Thabo Makhubu (33), were arrested and charged with business robbery. They appeared at the same court and were granted a R1 000 bail each and the matter remanded to 12 June 2018 as opposed to 05 May 2018 as it was reported.

The Provincial Commissioner of police in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma yesterday cautioned members and employees of the SAPS to refrain from illicit activities and lead clean exemplary lives which are beyond reproach.
