Two more teenagers arrested in Khayelitsha for Phillipi East murders

The efforts of the provincial integrated team deployed in Phillipi East to quell incidents of violent crime have paid off with the arrest of two more teenagers in Khayelitsha last night for the murder of five young men in Phillipi East on 30 June 2020. The team followed vital information to the Nkanini informal settlement where they found the two suspects both 19 years of age hiding in a house. They were subsequently arrested on murder charges.
On Thursday, 09 July 2020, police swooped on a 20-year-old suspect also in connection with the Phillipi murders. The first two arrests were of 18 and 19-yearold suspects apprehended on Main Road in Delft on Monday, 06 July 2020.
On 30 June 2020, seven suspects are alleged to have stormed a house in Block 4 in Phillipi East and fired shots randomly at the occupants. Five young men died as a result.
The two arrests of Friday evening bring the number of arrested suspects for the Phillipi East murders to five. Meanwhile police are hot on the heels of a sixth suspect as part of the multiple murder investigation.
The two arrested suspects are expected to appear in court on Monday. Provincial SAPS management has applauded the determination of police members who ensured the perpetrators were brought to book.
