Two nabbed for illegal possession of weapons

ZWELITSHA – A 49-year-old female and 59-year-old male were arrested last night and charged for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition in two different operations.

These arrests followed after Tactical Response Team deployed at Qumbu, Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) and Provincial Detectives conducted an operation for illegal firearms and ammunition at Mncetyana location, Tsolo and Qumbu areas on 23 April 2021.

A 59-year-old male suspect from New Homes location, Qumbu was arrested and charged for illegal possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. One (01) 9mm Norinco with a magazine and one live rounds were recovered.

A 49-year-old female suspect was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition Suspect arrested at Azania Hlongwane Street, Tsolo.

A Norinco pistol, 9mm Pistol and one 9mm magazine as well as two 9mm live cartridges. Both firearms will be taken to a ballistic test to ascertain their earlier use in commission of crime.

Both suspects are expected to appear at Tsolo and Qumbu magistrates’ court on Monday 26 April 2021.

“Every arrest is welcome and each firearm taken from criminal hands is a step closer to achieving our goal of a gun free Eastern Cape,” said Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga.
