Two suspects arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition

New Brighton and iKamvelihle: Two suspects were arrested for the illegal possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition by the Motherwell Cluster Operational Command Centre (OCC) members during the early morning hours.

In the first incident, OCC members heard shots being fired while patrolling Msinka Street, New Brighton at about 00:50. They spotted a 31-year-old male suspect running and stopped and searched him. A 9mm pistol with 9 rounds of ammunition was found in his possession. The serial number of the firearm was removed.

In the second incident the OCC members were following up information in Jambasi Street, iKamvelihle at about 02:50. After a shack was searched, a 9mm pistol with 3 rounds pf ammunition was found between the bed and wall. A 26-year-old male suspect was arrested. The serial number of this firearm was also removed.

Both suspects were arrested for the illegal possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and will be appearing in the Motherwell and New Brighton Magistrate’s Courts respectively tomorrow, 28 January 2019.
