Two suspects arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm in Samora Machel

WESTERN CAPE On Tuesday 16 April 2019 at about 01:15, members attached to POPS and Crime Intelligence were busy following up information in Vlei informal settlement looking for suspects, possibly involved in the shooting incident of a police member on 02 April 2019. Upon searching the house, they found a 7.65 pistol. The pistol was reported stolen in Struisbaai area. Two male suspects aged 19 and 25 were arrested.

In an unrelated incident Wynberg SAPS members were busy patrolling in Morom Road yesterday at about 18:20 when they came across a group of people chasing an unknown male. The members intervened and stopped the suspect. He was found in possession of a 9mm pistol and one round of ammunition.

On their way to the police station to detain the suspect they were informed that the suspect was involved in a business robbery at a butchery in Maynard Road, Wynberg. According to reports the suspect came with three other males to the butchery, closed the doors, threatened and point the firearm to the cashiers, and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The 23-year-old suspect was detained at Wynberg SAPS and is expected to appear in court on Tuesday 03 April 2019 on charges business robbery, possession of unlicensed firearm and possession of illegal ammunition.
