Two suspects nabbed with tools to commit crime

DURBAN – Phoenix police officers came up trumps when their vigilance and proactive approach to fighting crime resulted in two potential criminals being nabbed. Both men are being profiled to establish if they could be linked to other crimes in the area.

Police were on patrol at Glencroft when they were alerted by vigilant members of the community of a man walking on the road who aroused their suspicions. Following a quick search of the area, police spotted the man carrying a bolt cutter. After questioning the man, police arrested him for being in possession of house breaking implements.

At the Phoenix Plaza, a police team holding observations spotted a man attempting to break into a vehicle that was in the parking lot. The suspect was approached and was searched by police officers. He was found in possession of pliers and a car spanner. After questioning the man he was charged for attempted theft out of a motor vehicle. The duo are expected to appear in court soon.

We are once again appealing to members of the community to alert police to such suspicious activities. Many crimes can be averted if police are alerted and respond speedily. Citizens are urged to also look after each other’s properties and alert their neighbours of suspicious activities in the neighbourhood. We are encouraging communities to form neighbourhood WhatsApp groups so that they can alert one another of the modus operandi of criminals.
