Tzaneen police Constable convicted for theft

LIMPOPO: A 43-year-old former police Constable, Mohale Aubrey Matswi, was convicted of theft on Tuesday, 4 August 2020 by the Tzaneen Magistrates’ Court.
The former Tzaneen SAPS Constable approached two suspects in March 2019 who had assaulted two petrol attendants and offered to mediate between the two parties. It was agreed that the victims will be paid a once off R10 000 compensation fee in order for them to drop the charges.
The money was paid to Matswi to hand over to the victims however, he opted to pay R7 000 only and kept R3 000 for himself. The matter was reported to the Serious Corruption Investigation and Matswi was arrested for theft and later released on bail.
The court has sentenced Matswi to R2 000 or 12 months imprisonment, half of which is suspended for five (5) years. He was further ordered to compensate the complainants R3 000 by the end of September 2020.
