Vigilant members bring suspects to book

CAPE TOWN – Ongoing efforts to stop the illegal trade of drugs in the Western Cape have led to the arrests of a 48-year-old male who was attempting to courier drugs from Cape Town to Gauteng yesterday, 18 February 2020.

Alert members of the Flying Squad acted on information about a suspect at a courier company in Bloubergstrand who intended to courier illegal substances to Gauteng. Upon their arrival at the company they searched the suspect and it resulted in the seizure of 500 grams of heroin with an estimated street value of R100 000-00. The suspect is expected to make a court appearance today in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on charges of dealing in drugs.

In an unrelated incident, the members attached to Gordons Bay SAPS arrested two suspects aged 34 and 42 after they were found in possession of a prohibited firearm next to a garage on the N2 yesterday, 18 February 2020 at about 19:45.

While they were busy conducting crime prevention patrols in the area, members spotted a suspicious Golf vehicle. The vehicle was pulled over and searched, and a black backpack containing a firearm was found. It was discovered that the firearm was reported stolen in Grabouw.

The suspects were arrested and are expected to make a court appearance once they have been charged.
