Walmer rapist sentenced to 20 years in prison: Port Elizabeth

PORT ELIZABETH – A 30-year-old Walmer man was sentenced to an effective 20 years in prison on Friday, 29 January 2021 in the Port Elizabeth Regional Court for raping his 35-year-old neighbour in 2019.
On Saturday, 7 August 2019, at about 17:30, the complainant was asleep when she was awoken by the accused. The accused had broken into the house in G –West and forced himself on the victim. She fought with him but he managed to overpower her, assaulted her and raped her.
The following day he was arrested by the investigating officer from the Port Elizabeth Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
Masixole Nelo, 28 years old at the time of the offence, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for rape, 2 years for assault and 2 years for housebreaking. The sentences will run concurrent with the rape.
