Johannesburg: Water and Sanitation Minister Pemmy Majodina, alongside Deputy Minister David Mahlobo, is set to hand over approximately 150 completed low-flush sanitation systems in the Zenzele and OR Tambo townships within the Rand West Municipality, Gauteng. The event, scheduled for Monday, marks a significant step towards improving sanitation infrastructure in the region.

According to South African Government News Agency, the Minister will be joined by Mayor William Matsheke and a delegation from the Rand Water Foundation. During the visit, they plan to showcase 15 newly completed household sanitation installations. In addition, Minister Majodina will present a Decentralised Water Supply System at Lukhanyo Secondary School in Mohlakeng Township, ensuring a stable water supply for the school and the surrounding community.

On the following day, Majodina and Mahlobo will extend their efforts to the Mimosa Township in the Victor Khanye Local Municipality, Mpumalanga, where they will hand over an additional 100 completed low-flush household sanitation systems. These systems are expected to benefit around 500 residents in the area.

During the same visit, the Minister, together with the Rand Water Foundation Board and Rand Water leadership, will also deliver two Decentralised Water Supply Systems to Brakfontein village and Savanna Ward 7. This initiative aims to provide immediate access to safe drinking water for communities facing water supply challenges.

The government has reaffirmed its dedication to addressing water and sanitation issues through targeted interventions. "The handovers highlight the Department's partnership with Rand Water and the Rand Water Foundation in accelerating service delivery, strengthening water security, and ensuring that vulnerable communities have access to safe water and dignified sanitation infrastructure," the department stated.
