Weekend operations lead to several arrests

Our endeavours to bring perpetrators of crime to book during the lockdown period are yielding good results. On Friday, 24 April 2020, vigilant members were patrolling in Marikana, Philippi East when they saw three men. Upon searching them, police found an unlicensed firearm and a dangerous weapon. Three men were arrested and once they are charged they will appear in court.

On 22 April 2020, Gugulethu police arrested two suspects aged 29 and  39 during a vehicle check point (VCP) for contravening the Disaster Management Act Regulations after they were found in possession of illegal cigarettes. While the police were processing the arrested suspects, two men aged 25 and 26 came to the police station and offered a bribe of R2000 to the arresting officer.

On Saturday, 25 April 2020, police followed up on information about alcohol that was allegedly sold at a house in Tom Street, New Crossroads. Police searched the premises and found the alcohol. A 43-year-old man was arrested for the contravention of Regulation 11G of the Disaster Management Act Source: South African Police Service
