Western Cape police hot on the heels of armed suspects

WESTERN CAPE – The vigilance by members of the Maitland Flying Squad landed four suspects between the ages of 26 and 36 behind bars for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition in Samora Marchell last night, 21 February 2022. The members were busy with patrols in the Ottery area when they spotted a suspicious vehicle. The members turn around and when the suspects saw the police vehicle they sped off with police closely behind them. The suspects jumped out of the vehicle but was apprehended by the police members. A 9mm Norinco pistol without a serial number was found inside the vehicle.

The suspects are due to make a court appearance in the Wynberg Magistrates court on Thursday, 24 February 2022.

In an unrelated matter Members of the Anti-Gang Unit arrested a 16 year old suspect for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Kathleen court Manenberg yesterday, 21 February 2022 at about 14:25. The members were deployed to the Manenberg policing precinct to curb gang related shootings and were busy with stop and search operations when the suspect was arrested.

Furthermore the Anti-Gang Unit members arrested a 30-year-old male for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Peta Walk, Manenberg last night. The members received information about a firearm at the premises. They searched the premises on found a CZ 9mm pistol with ammunition in the house.

Once charged the suspects will appear in the Athlone Magistrates court respectively on the mentioned charges.
