Western Cape Social Development welcomes sentences handed down on Anthea Kleynhans

16 Days of Activism: Department welcomes stiff sentences for child killer

The Western Cape Department of Social Development welcomes the effective 18 year prison sentence handed down on child murderer, Anthea Kleynhans.

The sentence was handed down yesterday in the Cape Town High Court, after she was convicted for the murder of Lache Stols (3) and seven counts of child abuse, as per the Children’s Act of 2005.

The Department is the custodian of the Act, and holds a zero-tolerance approach to any and all forms of child abuse, neglect, abandonment or murder.

The Courts must send a strong message to society that the mistreatment and killing of children, is simply unacceptable and severely punishable.

This is why I call on the courts to deal with all child murders harshly, and to impose maximum sentences allowed, said MEC Albert Fritz, who continued on to say, the likes of Randy Tango, self-confessed murderer of Tafelsig 11-year old Stacha Arendse, must also face the maximum sentence for his horrible deeds.

The Department applauds civil society groups and communities which have rallied together, not only in support of families which have suffered the loss of their children, but also to protect other children in their communities. Child Protection is truly a whole-of-society effort, and parents play the most critical role. No government can replace the role of committed and responsible parents in the home.
