Women put their best foot forward in fighting crime

MANGAUNG – Mangaung District women both Police and Public Act personnel commemorate women’s month through Operation Basadi.

The three-day Operation that is a crime prevention driven initiative aims to achieve a crime free society, under the Command of Mangaung Station Commander Brigadier Winnie Mokalake.

The operation kicked off on Thursday morning 25 August 2022 with a parade at Mangaung SAPS, in Phahameng.

Welcoming and addressing the members that come in full force and ready to serve Brig Mokalake encouraged the members to maintain a high level of discipline as they work throughout the operation, do your work as expected to serve and protect the citizen.

The Operational members were divided into three groups; the first group was of Social Crime prevention with the soft approach to crime. Their focus was social issues, such as informing and teaching the community about Domestic Violence, giving safety tips when at ATM and home safety, and how to be safe from theft out of motor vehicle.

The second team was the compliance team; members on this team were working together with external stakeholders, Centlec and Transnet. The aim was for them to help police identify copper that was stolen from them at the scrap yards. The third team worked on crime prevention duties and the detectives tracing wanted suspects.

At the end of the operation, more than six fines were issued and arrests done. Car Mechanic business based at Namibia was issued with a fine for operating without a license. An illegal shebeen was closed and liquor confiscated.

A 19-year-old suspect was arrested for common robbery after robbing a minor of about R200-00. A 40-year-old female was arrested for possession of drugs, another suspect was arrested for dealing in dagga. Detectives also arrested three wanted suspects during their tracing operation.
