Today, 23 May 2022, City of Cape Town Human Settlements Directorate officials visited the R101 million Sir Lowry’s Pass Village housing project to check on its progress. The project is expected to provide 307 housing opportunities for qualifying beneficiaries.

The City of Cape Town’s Sir Lowry’s Pass Village housing project is expected to be completed in early 2024, if all goes according to plan. The R101 million expenditure will include money for bulk earthworks; internal civil engineering services for the provision of water, sanitation and roads; electricity reticulation and street lighting; and free-standing and semi-detached duplex units. The affordable housing project will provide 307 opportunities for the approved beneficiaries.

‘Construction commenced in September 2021 and is progressing steadily. Site clearance has been completed and the internal pipe services for sewer, water and stormwater have nearly been completed. The internal roads construction is well advanced with kerbs having been placed. Reticulation of electrical services has commenced and the preparation works for construction of top structures has started.

‘It is pleasing to see the progress at this site. This project will provide 307 housing opportunities to qualifying beneficiaries in the area and surrounding areas. This project is an excellent example of the City’s dedication to providing housing opportunities to residents in all areas across the metro. We thank the contractors and City staff for their hard work thus far, and we look forward to seeing additional progress on site over next two years,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi, who, together with officials in the City’s Human Settlements Directorate visited the project today to check on its progress.

Beneficiaries of this project will be selected in accordance with the City’s Housing Allocation Policy and Housing Needs Register to ensure housing opportunities are made available in a fair and transparent manner that prevents queue jumping and to those who qualify for housing as per the South African legislation.
