World Disability Day celebrated at Tshwane Rehabilitation Hospital

More than 300 persons with

disabilities participated in a third annual FunRoll, wheelchair race in

commemoration of World Disability Day.

Tshwane Rehabilitation Hospital in partnership with City of Tshwane hosted this

race. In addition to the exercise, the

day was also used to showcase and promote healthy lifestyle. Under the theme, Together Building South

Africa Inclusive of Disability Rights, the government focuses on priority areas

identified by the disability sector and is also linked to the seven priorities

of government. These include Children/young people with disabilities empowered

to chart their own destiny through access to quality lifelong learning; A built

environment accessible to all persons with disabilities; Persons with

disabilities as equal players in building inclusive economies; Children and

women with disabilities feeling and being safe as equal citizens in their

communities.

The annual event attended by

various stakeholders was a success and all race participants are looking

forward to next year’s race.
