Gauteng Premier, David Makhura has announced a plan to create jobs and promote economic growth through ten high growth sectors.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Speaking at the official opening of the provincial legislature on Tuesday 25, February 2020, at the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University in Pretoria, Makhura said the provincial government will work with national departments, State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and, development finance to establish social compacts to develop detailed implementation plans for the 10 high growth sectors. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The identified sectors include <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Energy, with a focus on new technologies and a diverse energy mix<\/p>\n
Transportation and Logistics ICT, Media and Digital Services the digital economy<\/p>\n
Tourism and Hospitality<\/p>\n
Food, Beverages, Agro-processing and Agribusiness<\/p>\n
Construction and Infrastructure<\/p>\n
Automotive, Aerospace and Defence<\/p>\n
Financial Services<\/p>\n
Cultural and Creative Industries<\/p>\n
Industrialisation of Cannabis<\/p>\n
Makhura added that, provincial government would improve the ease of doing business in each of these sectors develop a skilled workforce for each industry and build an enabling infrastructure, including special economic zones and industrial parks.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
All this work will translate into social compacts with industry leaders and organised labour to implement sector growth strategies.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
By 2025, the Gauteng-City-Region will have three fully operating Special Economic Zones in Ekurhuleni, Tshwane and Sedibeng and a Special Agro-Processing Zone in the West Rand. In addition, there will be fifteen (15) revitalised industrial parks, twelve (12) agri-parks and five (5) agro-processing facilities across the five corridors.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
This will be a single industrial ecosystem that supports the 10 high-growth sectors and township SMMEs, said Makhura.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
He projected that by 2030, Gauteng will have the biggest inland logistics hub and dry port in Africa the Transnet Tambo-Springs Logistics Gateway which will give Gauteng a major competitive advantage in the continent. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
