NELSPRUIT – The\nProvincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga,\nLieutenant General Mondli Zuma has reassured the public that all police\nstations in the province will remain open during the nationwide lockdown. The\nProvincial Commissioner’s assurance comes after false news doing rounds on\nsocial media platforms, indicating that Witbank police station has closed shop\nfor the period of the lockdown and thus not functional. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Provincial\nCommissioner has called on the public to stop spreading false news during this\nperiod. “The country is faced with a serious challenge at this point in\ntime but people choose to use this as an opportunity to play games and spread\nfalse news. People must know that spreading false news is an offense that is\npunishable by law and those who participate in such activities will be dealt\nwith accordingly. As police, our duty is to stamp the authority of the state\nand as such, police stations are essential facilities which play a critical\nrole in the fight against crime and therefore, will not close shop. We cannot\nafford to have people who maliciously distribute deceiving information to the\npublic, our services are continuously needed by the community and we are always\nthere to provide such services to them,” said General Zuma. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Witbank Police station\nand other police stations across the province are fully operational and\nfunctioning accordingly whereby services are rendered to the community in spite\nof the Lock-down. The public can make use of our services at any time as\nessential services are being rendered to the public during this period as\nexpected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The public is urged to\nwork closely with Law Enforcement Agencies during this Lock-down period and in\ntheir quest of ensuring compliance to COVID-19 Regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The police have also\nobserved with great concern a tendency by adults who send children to buy\ngroceries at shops. In other instances, adults are being seen at shops with\nchildren queueing to purchase groceries.
