POTCHEFSTROOM – In an\nendeavour to strengthen the fight against stock theft in collaboration with\nmembers of the community, seven suspects will on Tuesday, 14 April 2020 appear\nin the Ottosdal and Swartruggens Magistrates\u2019 Courts on charges of stock theft\nand possession of suspected stolen goods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the first incident in\nOttosdal, five suspects aged between 27 and 42 were on Friday, 10 April 2020\narrested at a certain house in Letsopa Location outside Ottosdal by Sannieshof\nStock theft Unit. That was after the police reacted to a tip-off that suspected\nstolen livestock were kept at a house in Letsopa. Consequently, 20 of 21 sheep\nwhich were reported stolen at a farm outside Ottosdal on Thursday, 9 April\n2020, were recovered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In another separate\nincident, two suspects aged 31 will appear in the Swartruggens Magistrates\u2019\nCourt after being arrested for stock theft. The suspects\u2019 court appearance\nfollows their apprehension on Friday, 10 April 2020 at Reagile Location outside\nKoster after members of the public alerted the police about males who were\nallegedly seen slaughtering a sheep at an open field. Upon arrival of the\npolice at the scene, the suspects fled, but the long arm of the law caught up\nwith them. As a result, 28 sheep were recovered and linked to a case of stock\ntheft in which 40 sheep were reportedly stolen at farm in the vicinity of\nSwartruggens in the early hours of Friday morning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Provincial\nCommissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena commended members\nfor their swift reaction that led to the arrests and the recovery of the\nlivestock.
