A police officer is\nnever off duty and is always ready to make a sacrifice in order to ensure that\nthe people they serve are and feel safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Saturday 11\/04 at\nabout 19:00, an off duty Warrant Officer from PE Flying Squad received\ninformation about a person in possession of a firearm at a taxi rank in Durban\nRoad Korsten. The member placed himself on duty and together with his\ncolleagues who were on duty followed up on the information and spotted the\nsuspect who attempted to flee when he saw the police vehicle. The Warrant\nOfficer chased after him on foot and succeeded in apprehending him. The\n15-year-old teenager was in possession of a 9mm pistol (serial number filed\noff).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The teenager was\narrested for prohibited possession of a firearm, illegal possession of\nammunition as well as contravening the regulations of the Disaster Management\nAct of not been confined to his residence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He will appear in the\nPort Elizabeth magistrates\u2019 court on Tuesday, 14 April 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Also, on the same\nevening (11\/04) at about 23:00, the same members followed up on information\nabout a shooting which took place earlier in the day at the taxi rank in\nKorsten. No injuries were sustained, only damage to the vehicle. The alleged\nsuspect involved in the shooting was spotted in Kama Street in Korsten and was\narrested. The 24 year old suspect was detained on a charge of attempted murder\nand is expected to appear in court on Tuesday, 14\/04.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mount Road Cluster\nCommander, Maj Gen Thembisile Patekile commended the officer who despite being\noff duty ensured that information provided to him was immediately followed up\nand executed. \u201cPolice officers such as these are steadfast to their\ncalling thus ensuring that the space of criminals are limited and that the\ncommunity is protected,\u201d added Maj Gen Patekile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
