PLETTENBERG BAY \u2013Efforts\nby the police to eradicate drug trafficking into the Western Cape yielded positive\nresults with the confiscation of drugs stashed in a bread delivery truck on\nFriday, 17 April 2020 on the N2 highway near Plettenberg Bay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Vigilant members of the\npolice were busy with routine checks at a roadblock when they stopped a white\nHyundai ten ton truck that was en-route from the Eastern Cape. Upon searching\nthe vehicle they found a box and plastic bag containing 70 bundles of Khat with\nan estimated street value of R4500 behind the front seat. The police\nconfiscated the drugs and arrested the driver a as well as his passenger. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both suspects, aged 24\nand 28 appeared in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrates\u2019 Court on Friday, 17 April\n2020 on charges relating of dealing in drugs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Western Cape police\nmanagement commended the members involved in effecting the arrests and\nsubsequent confiscations. The arrests will send a clear message to drug dealers\nthat police are a step ahead and they will face the full might of the law when\narrested. Operations to deal with the drug trafficking on exit and entrance routes\nto the province are set to continue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In an unrelated matter,\na 24-year-old suspect recently appeared in the Ladismith Magistrates\u2019 court\nafter stolen items were found in his possession. The stolen items, which\nincludes cellular phones, jewellery, a tablet and other personal items were\nlinked to a burglary at a house at Koning Street, Ladismith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Members attached to the\nLadismith Visible Policing Unit were on patrol when they spotted a suspicious\nlooking man at Peceur Street, Ladismith. The man noticed the police vehicle and\nfled on foot. A chase ensued and the members caught up with the man. They\nsearched him and found a bag of stolen items in his possession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Further investigation\ntook the police to a house from where these items were stolen earlier during a\nburglary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The suspect appeared in\ncourt on Thursday, 16 April, on charges of housebreaking and theft with an\nadditional charge of possession of stolen property. This matter was postponed\nto 07 May 2020 for further investigation and the suspect remains in custody\nuntil his next court appearance<\/p>\n\n\n\n
