NORTHERN CAPE – A\nmulti-disciplinary approach led to the arrest and apprehension of four suspects\non Sunday, 19 April 2020 at approximately 12:15, on a farm in the Severn area\nin the JTG Cluster who were caught red handed while attempting to poach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A member of the Kuruman\nStock Theft unit requested the assistance of the Tswalu Anti- Poaching unit in\ntracking unknown footprints discovered on a farm in the area. According to\nreports from the owner, he has been experiencing incidents of poaching on the\nfarm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Tswalu Anti-\nPoaching unit provided aerial and ground support to the SAPS. Assistance\nwas also offered by Severn and Van Zylsrus police members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The members of the\nTswalu Anti- Poaching unit who were in the chopper noticed four (4) suspects in\nthe veld and relayed the location to the members on the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There was an exchange of\ngun fire between the members in the chopper and the suspects on the ground\nduring which one suspect was fatally wounded, two injured and one uninjured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The suspects were\napprehended and arrested and several firearms and ammunition were confiscated\non the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The injured suspects\nwere transported to a local hospital in Kuruman for medical treatment and will\nbe under police guard until their court appearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The police will be\ninvestigating an inquest case as well as Illegal Possession of firearms\nand ammunition, Trespassing, contravening the Disaster Management Act\nRegulations and Illegal immigrants as three of the suspects are undocumented\nimmigrants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The JTG cluster\ncommander, Major General Johan Bean commended the members from the Tswalu Anti-\nPoaching unit, Kuruman StockTheft unit, Severn and Van Zylsrus police for the\nmulti – disciplinary approach that was followed in the apprehension and arrest\nof the suspects in stamping down the authority of the state especially during\nthe lockdown period<\/p>\n\n\n\n
