CAPE TOWN – Maitland Flying Squad members were hard at work over the weekend ensuring safety within communities. As a consequence, they seized a vehicle, two firearms, ammunition, crayfish and lobsters in different locations.
\nIn the early hours of Sunday morning the members executed a stop and search operation in Makhaya, Khayelitsha. In the house they arrested a 31-year-old suspect and confiscated an Uzi rifle, rounds of ammunition and a magazine. The suspect is expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate\u2019s court on Monday, 15 June 2020 on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm.
\nAnother team also from the Maitland Flying Squad pursued a speeding vehicle from Bonteheuwel in the early hours of Sunday morning and stopped it in Ravensmead. The suspects disappeared into the area while members discovered an unlicensed firearm with ammunition and seized the vehicle. The search continues for the suspects.
\nMeanwhile members of the Maitland Flying Squad\u2019s A shift armed with valuable information descended on a residence on Clipper Road in Strandfontein yesterday and executing a search and seizure operation. During the operation that was carried out with the department of sea fisheries officials, the police members seized 1125 crayfish tails and 10 West Coast rock lobsters. A suspect was arrested and charged in terms of the Marine Living Resources Act for possession of crayfish and rock lobsters without a permit.
\nThe suspect is expected to appear in court on Monday, 15 June 2020.
