POTCHEFSTOOM \u2013 The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, hailed the Morokweng Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit for securing another life sentence that was handed down to Lucky Gaesirwe by the Ganyesa Regional Court on Friday, 20 November 2020.
\nThis is after Gaesirwe, aged 37, was sentenced to life following his arrest on Wednesday, 19 December 2018, for the rape of a 78-year-old woman at her place at Gamorakile Section in Morokweng near Vryburg. The accused came from a tavern in the middle of the night when he broke into the victim\u2019s place, then overpowered and raped her. Subsequently, he fell asleep next to the victim. The latter managed to get a knobkerrie which she used to assault the accused before alerting her neighbours. The police were called and the accused was arrested and charged with rape.
\nLieutenant General Kwena congratulated the Morokweng FCS Unit for securing another life sentence within four days. This follows the sentencing of Reaobaka Alphius Baikepi (26) on Tuesday, 17 November 2020, to life for raping a 76-year-old woman.
\nThe Provincial Commissioner further said that the members’ diligence paid off and that the sentences will definitely serve as an indication to potential criminals that those who abuse women and children will be dealt with harshly. <\/p>\n
