The Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team of Hawks in East London arrested Nyameka Katshwa (48) on 16 March 2021 on alleged charges of fraud.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
It is alleged that on 14 July 2007, Nyameka Katshwa made a fraudulent claim against Road Accident Fund since her husband died due to motor vehicle accident.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
She made the claims on behalf of her stepchildren (the deceased’s minor children) who were not under her guardianship as they were staying with other relatives.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The claim was successful and a sum of R514 000-00 was paid to her by RAF. It is further reported that she never utilized the money for her stepchildren’s needs but rather for her personal use.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The matter was reported to Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit of the Hawks for Investigation hence her arrest and court appearance yesterday, 16 March 2021.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
She is out on a warning and the case is remanded to the 13 April 2021.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
