NORTHERN CAPE – The SAPS welcomes the rape sentences that was handed down to a Galeshewe man, recently.<\/p>\n
On 13 June 2016 at about 01:00, Norman Benedict Moreki (29) accosted an 18-year-old female near Buiteman Street in Galeshewe. He was wearing a balaclava when he threatened and stabbed her in the right hand. He raped her and robbed her of her cellphone in a nearby veld.<\/p>\n
On 14 January 2018 at approximately 06:00, Moreki struck again and raped another 18-year-old female in a veld near Club 2000 in Galeshewe. Police followed up on information and Moreki was positively linked with his DNA.<\/p>\n
He was arrested 26 September 2018 and remained in custody up until his sentencing. The accused was also found guilty on a theft out of motor vehicle he committed in Kagisho during June 2018.<\/p>\n
On 1 April 2021 Moreki was sentenced in the Galeshewe Magistrates Court as follows:<\/p>\n
Count 1: Rape – 10 years<\/p>\n
Count 2: Robbery – 4 years<\/p>\n
Count 3: Rape – 10 years<\/p>\n
Count 4: Theft out of motor vehicle – 2 years.<\/p>\n
Count 2 and 4 will run concurrently.<\/p>\n

The long hours and meticulous investigation ensured that no impunity was granted to the offender of the heinous crimes, said Mills.”<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
