The City of Cape Town\u2019s Road Infrastructure Management Department will soon commence with the refurbishment of a section of Beach Road in Strand. The work is scheduled for 6 April 2022 to 26 May 2022, pending unforeseen delays and inclement weather. Read more below:<\/p>\n
The work will be implemented from Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 15:30.<\/p>\n
The following sections of Beach Road will be affected:<\/p>\n
\u2022\tLourens River Bridge to Thompson Street<\/p>\n
\u2022\tMelkbaai Street to Da Gama Street<\/p>\n
\u2022\tMain Road circle to 36 Beach Road (Haarlem Street)<\/p>\n
\u2022\t16B Beach Road (Haarlem Street) to Hofmeyer Street.<\/p>\n
The work is part of regular road maintenance and entails the removal of the existing surfacing, base repairs and resurfacing of road surfaces.<\/p>\n
The first section to be resurfaced is between Lourensriver Bridge and Thompson Street, followed by Main Road and 36 Beach Road, 16B Beach Road and Hofmeyer street and the last section to be completed will be Melkbaai Street to Da Gama Street.<\/p>\n
\u2018Regular road maintenance is pivotal in prolonging our road network, one of Cape Town\u2019s biggest assets. The work does not only prolong the roads\u2019 longevity, but also improves the overall safety of road users.<\/p>\n
\u2018Traffic moving in both directions will be affected and congestion is anticipated. Thus, I appeal to motorists to please consider using alternative routes, where possible, to avoid unnecessary delays and inconvenience. We will have flag personnel directing traffic flow through temporary detours around the construction area,\u2019 said the City\u2019s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.<\/p>\n
\u2018Furthermore, we urge residents and motorist to comply with the signage displayed around the construction area, reduce their speed and exercise extra caution while work is under way. This among other things, will ensure that the work is completed on time so that life can return to normal again, said Councillor Quintas.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
