Skills development and how to be better prepared for a real life disaster also formed part of the programme.

Topics included basic firefighting techniques, first-aid training as well as basic self-defense in collaboration with the NGO ‘Fight Back SA’.

Participants also visited the Helderberg Nature Reserve where they learned about biodiversity and the importance of nature conservation.

‘We are extremely proud of the young women who took such a keen interest in the different subjects during the programme and we would once again like to congratulate them all. Women fulfil an important role as ambassadors for the City and the Disaster Risk Management Centre by sharing knowledge and being role models for other members of the community. If we all work together, we can be better prepared for a disaster,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
