The City\u2019s Human Settlements Directorate handed over 10 Breaking New Ground (BNG) opportunities to qualifying beneficiaries at the R44,2 million Belhar Pentech housing project on Friday, 2 December 2022. Once the project is completed, it will provide 340 housing opportunities to some of the metro\u2019s most vulnerable residents, of which 234 have already been handed over. The project will include 16 units for beneficiaries with disabilities; 10 of these units have already been handed over.<\/p>\n
\u2018The extraordinary decision was taken, together with the qualifying beneficiaries, to hand over keys to homes which are partially complete to protect against the threat of unlawful occupation. The contractor will complete the homes while the beneficiaries are already in occupation. It is unfortunate that theft and vandalism are a massive barrier to the successful completion of this project.<\/p>\n
\u2018We are thrilled that these qualifying beneficiaries, some who are among the most poor in the metro, will be living in their new homes for the festive season and that these homes will be protected against unlawful occupation.<\/p>\n
\u2018We thank the project teams, contractors and most importantly the community and beneficiaries for working with us while we complete the project and provide opportunities to beneficiaries,\u2019 said the City\u2019s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi.<\/p>\n
