The first NIDS was the wave 1 (survey round 1) in 2008 to wave 4 in 2014\/15. The NIDS is undertaken at two to three year intervals with the first or the base wave undertaken in 2008; the NIDS Wave 2 in 2010; the NIDS Wave 3 in 2012 and the NIDS Wave 4 in 2014\/2015.<\/P><P><\/P><P>The NIDS provides one of the key instruments to monitor policy performance and the extent to which the National Development Plan&#8217;s goals are being achieved. The NIDS is the first national household panel study in South Africa. The aim of the NIDS is to provide empirical data on the changing socio-economic dynamics of South African society.<\/P><P><\/P><P>The Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME) commissions the NIDS.
