Yebei Died a Painful Death, Says Brother

The family of ICC witness Meshack Yebei believes he was tortured before his body was dumped at the Man-Eaters area of Tsavo National Park last December.
Yebei’s brother, Reverend Moses Kisorio, and human rights activist Ken Wafula on Wednesday said they will fight for justice and ensure his killers are brought to book.
DNA tests have confirmed that the body lying at the Moi Hospital mortuary, Voi, is that of Yebei.
It had one eye gouged out, a bullet wound behind the neck and the private parts appeared to have been mutilated.
“Our brother died a painful death but we thank God we have finally found his body so we can lay him to rest,” Kisorio said.
He said the killers may have used a knife to gouge out the eye.
“The tongue was out of the mouth and tightly between the teeth. Doctors said that was an indication he died in a lot of pain,” Kisorio said.
Wafula said they will file a torture complaint with the United Nations agency on human rights so that the government is compelled to explain how Yebei died.
“We have given the police all the details on those who may have been involved in killing Yebei and we want them arrested,” Wafula said.
He claimed the suspects have acquired new assets such as tractors, an indication they have been paid for the killing.
DNA tests done in South Africa have confirmed the body is Yebei’s.
The family is waiting for the tests done in Kenya, to be released by Head of Serious Crimes at the CID headquarters John Kariuki.
Yebei’s wife Lilian earlier told the Star all the family wants is closure as the matter has dragged on too long.
